What are the operating hours of City Hall?

City Hall is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The telephone number is 985-748-8761.

How do I report a water leak in the evenings or weekends?

If you have an emergency water leak in the evening or the weekend, please call the Amite Police Department at 985-748-6169.  The police will report your emergency water leak to the appropriate service representative.  Depending on the severity of the leak, the service representative may wait until the following business day to make the repairs.

Are building permits required in the Town of Amite City?

Building permits are required for new construction and additions to existing structures.  Please contact City Hall at 985-748-8761 before construction begins.

The Town of Amite City is a zoned community.  Before opening a business in the Town of Amite City, please contact City Hall at 985-748-8761.

How do I apply for a zoning change or variance?

 A fee of $125 must be paid to the Town of Amite City by any applicant applying for a change, variance, or amendment to the Planning and Zoning Ordinance.  These fees are non-refundable, regardless of the decision reached by the Planning and Zoning Commission or by the City Council. 

When are Planning and Zoning Commission meeting held?

The Planning and Zoning Commission meets the third Tuesday of the month at 8:30 a.m. at Amite City Hall.
